Classes and Italian Time

When it comes to Viterbo and higher education schools the year, and semesters are a little bit different than in the states. For college classes in Viterbo the students start the year in mid September to early October. Whereas in the United States most students in most grades, and schools start classes in early to mid August. The Italian school year typically ends by June 10th so Italy does not do summer classes of any kind (virtual, or in person). Typically the only college student's around the campus in the summer are those involved in specialty projects, or co-ops/internships. Usually being away from school is called vacation or going on holiday. With Italian time in my experience professors are more laid back about time as are host families. You could see on a schedule that something is at 9, but nothing really starts until 10-13 minutes after that time. People are there by 9 for class but nothing starts right at 9. If you are going out at night it can be typical for people to be late. In Italy people are not as critical when it comes to event times, and deadlines as they see urgency with time, and depending on a clock to be a major stress factor. Italian people like to have normal, yet relaxed lives that are not run by a clock, or a calendar. In the U.S. we are more prone to being very strict with time of events, and classes and very stuck in the mindset of being run by deadlines wether it be a deadline for a college assignment, or an employee assignment at a place of work.
