What to Expect During the Study Abroad Process Student

1. In the beginning of the process you will be contacted by your home university advisor who the office will assign to your case.

2. have meetings to help figure out which program is best for you. You will then open your account through your schools international office where you will have a series of paper work to fill out with important details.

3. Once all the requirements are completed which usually takes some time to finish; you will start to have a series of meetings either in person, or virtually where you will get information about the process, and you will have ample opportunity to be able to ask questions.

4. You will then wait for the acceptance letter once the days of paperwork are finished. Once you get that acceptance letter well, let me quote my home university "congratulations and let the adventure begin!"

5. Talk over living arrangements apartment with other students in your program, or host family which can help with immersion with language, and culture

6. You will then have to apply for both a passport and visa (visa if the program is longer than 90 days in length). You also apply for international health insurance to have during your time abroad so if you were to get sick, or if something were to happen to you it would be covered instead of using out of pocket payment.

7. You will have multiple meetings with your advisor before your departure date from the U.S. and it will give you time to learn everything that you need to know prior to traveling, and you and your parents can always ask any and all questions you may have as it's a big decision!

tip: I would recommend each student get a binder to be able to hold all important notes, papers, and documentation pertaining to study abroad because there's a lot of information packets that you can expect to receive.
