Weekend in Florence
Traveling and staying in Florence is a unique experience for any study abroad student.Florence or as Italians call it Firenze is a melting pot city with thousands of people from all different nationalities. I made two new friends while I was there this weekend. The two friends are from two different countries Nigeria, and Switzerland and both speak fluent English. While I was there I also went on a wine tasting tour in the Chianti Tuscany region. each winery has it's own claim to fame. Tenuta Torciano is known for its Cavaliere which is part of its Super Tuscan red wines line up. Super Tuscan wine is extremely strong and super bitter. I would say it's an acquired taste. Super Tuscan lines go well with a meal of red meat. The Sant'Appiano is known for their Cottaccio red wine. Cottaccio is a perfect blend not too bitter, and not too strong. It's a smooth sipping type of wine that goes well with a good balanced meal that includes meat, and vegetables. It also has hidden hints of spice that a person can only taste if they swirl the wine around in the glass, then hold the wine in their mouth for a few seconds. Learning about food pairings, flavor hints, and wine tasting technique education are big perks of doing a wine tasting at an actual winery.
