TrenItalia Rail Lines & Stations
Trenitalia is a new experience for anyone traveling to or through Italy. Platforms for boarding can change within 1 minute of arrival so as a traveler you must always keep your eyes on the train board for arrivals and departures and specific train numbers. I was on 4 Trenitalia lines when traveling to and from Florence. My journey started mid day on Friday the 30th of September 2022. My first port of call was Viterbo Porta Fiorentina. From there I had a long layover at Attigliano-Bomarzo. From Attigliano I boarded a 4.5 hour train to Florence (Firenze) Santa Maria Novella Station. On each line whenever the train is approaching a stop a notification will come across the loud speaker the first time in Italian the second in English. It will notify travelers of where the stop is, and then it will give the name of the station. You can also access such information on the Trenitalia app where your tickets will be under the Journey's tab. Stations come in all different sizes most small but in capitals or big cities the stations tend to be bigger. Bigger stations can be found in Roma (Rome), Firenze (Florence), Milano (Milan), Napoli (Naples), and Turin. Most other cities are hosts of much smaller stations. Each station has multiple monitors that will give train numbers, arrival time, and departure time. Stations also have food, and lots of signs so that travelers can easily navigate without getting lost. At most stops someone who works on the train will get out and stand on the platform for a few minutes during boarding to answer any questions you may have. Some train lines offer snack services others do not it just depends on the train line, the model for coming and going between cars, and length of journey. Most snacks and beverages served cost under 4 Euro!
